Shannon Lynn

“I should have been a cowboy”

Well maybe not a cowboy but perhaps a cowgirl………says the talented country singer Shannon Lynn. Those are the specific lyrics I remember when I fell in love with country music; something about the good old country twang just hit me that day.

At the tender age of 12 months Shannon started talking, at the age of 18 months she started to sing and hasn’t stopped since. Her first performance for her family was “When you hold a Rosy apple” and “Happy Birthday” to everybody and everything (including the mic). “Believe me there are hours and hours of tapes to prove this if anyone ever wanted to listen” she jokes.

Throughout Elementary and High School Shannon was a natural athlete. She excelled in many sports but decided to focus on soccer. This decision proved wise as she showed exceptional skill allowing her to play at the provincial level, for the Canada games team, as well as receiving a soccer scholarship out of high school. She was also named MVP Safeway soccer girl of the year and she received the rose bowl trophy and the coveted red leather jacket. “ I still have that jacket, it’s sure is one of a kind”…she laughs. She became the first girl from Richmond to win the award in the 10 years of the tournament, a record she still holds.

Shannon seemed to be on the path that would lead her to becoming a National level athlete, but something was missing. She had never lost the love for singing that came so naturally to her from such an early age. She decided to pursue this love by taking voice lessons. Her voice coach recognized immediately the raw talent of this young singer and had her perform at a benefit concert he held in Vancouver. He introduced Shannon to the audience by stating “I’ve only been working with this student for 2 months and don’t have the words to describe her voice - you just have to listen for yourself.” Shannon continued with voice lessons exploring the many paths in which her music could take her. She formed a country Duo called Silver and the girls were given the opportunity to record in Florida where they lived for 3 months. Upon returning home the pair was chosen to perform at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival. The two girls started to grow apart and had different ideas as to where they wanted their music to take them so they went their separate ways.

Currently, Shannon has been singing the Canadian and American Anthems for various sports team including the Vancouver Whitecaps, “being on the soccer pitch comes natural to me, and I am always ready to be subbed on with a moments notice."

This past summer Shannon played Amanda Bynes soccer double in the upcoming DreamWorks picture “She’s the Man” Due out March 17th this year. “What an exciting way to spend the summer playing soccer all day with people like Vinnie Jones, what a great experience". She has also been writing songs and doing lots of recording with her album coming out in the summer of 2006. Shannon will continue to work hard in the pursuit of her country singing dreams and no matter where this takes her deep down inside she knows………..

“I should’ve been a Cowboy
I should’ve learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl’s hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
Oh I should’ve been a cowboy”
