HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE

SHIRLEY FIELD

Born: In Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada and raised on her family's farm/ranch in the municipality of Spallumcheen (Indian word meaning "beautiful valley"). Shirley loved the cowboy way of life and particularly loved to participate in cattle drives and do her fair share of work with the rest of the cattle drive cowboys.

Musical Start: At the age of nine, she started composing, singing and yodeling. The first yodeling she heard was by Jimmy Rodgers on an old 78rpm record. She learned the basics of yodeling from her father, and was told by her parents that she learned to sing and talk before she learned to walk! Singing was a natural vocation in Shirley's home as the entire family would participate in sing-a-longs which featured her mother's beautiful soprano voice.

Influenced By: Wilf Carter, her dear friend and idol, now deceased.

  • Loretta Lynn, a friend since 1956
