Dave "Big Daddy" McCormick
Dave McCormick is a veteran broadcaster in the Vancouver market. In l986, Dave joined the new 93.7FM JR Country Station in Vancouver where he was the Afternoon Drive Show jock for a decade. He also hosted and produced Countrymentary, a series of one hour, nationally syndicated programs, profiling the top country music makers. This series utilized his own massive interview and CD/record collection. As a music historian and musicologist, Dave made regular trips to Nashville to interview the hot country artists and has developed a great rapport with Nashville's artists, musicians and executives. He was the only Canadian in an exclusive group of broadcasters who have the privilege of interviewing country music's most sought-after stars. With his knowledge of pop, rock & jazz music, he's often called upon to act as a music consultant for various projects. In 1988, Dave developed another syndicated program series called "All Star Country," a daily feature which aired for five years on 65 radio stations nationally across Canada. Each show profiled a current artist utilizing interview comments from Dave's personal collection. In 1998,when JR Country's sister station, 600AM (the one time frequency for the legendary CJOR) switched format to a new 50+ plus format, Dave "moved down the hall" to take over the 10am-3pm slot, spinning favourites by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, et al - and sharing his musical insights. 600AM since has enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity. For three years Dave served as Vice President on the Board of Directors for the B.C. Country Music Association. At their Annual Awards, Dave was voted "On Air Personality of the Year" for four straight years. His proudest achievement was being named "Provincial Broadcast Performer of the Year" by the B.C. Association of Broadcasters at their 1992 Conference. |
